- Comments:Hi there,
- I have just found this site and I think it is wonderful. I know little about
Salford or the music as I am only 20 but it is fascinating to read. I am
very interested in finding out more about what it was like back then. My
name is Laura and I am Gerry Cottrell's grandaughter so it is lovely to hear all
the comments about him and hear what a great musician he was. I had to
laugh at the comment he was the quiet one of the group because that is exactly
how he was. A very laid back and caring person. I miss him everyday.
So if anyone can tell me more about what he was like as a young man I would be
grateful. Also thank you to everyone who came to the funeral, you helped
it to be a happy day with your memories.

- Comments: Hiya, I've just
found this site, great!. I was
born/brought up in Weaste, it was a posh
area, once, a long time before my family
lived there, in the 50/60/70s.
- I was interested in the statue of
Fred Dibnah, I'm sure I am way too late
to ask these questions but, what did you
have in mind? artist?, or is this all
history and is it sat somewhere on
display? if so where?. Great site, I
will be visiting again, Thank you. Liz

- Comments: Hiya, I was born on
cemetery road weaste, 1951, Not a "lively"
place, but fun for us kids. I recall, as a
child, our street lined with people, we (our
family/neighbours) had a very good veiw of
what was a sad occasion, Eddie Colmans
funeral etc. I was a very young child at the
time, but was aware of the importance of it
all and the effect it had on the adults. As
kids, we spent a great deal of time in the
cemetery, although it was our playground, we
were very respectfull of it. in particular,
eddie Colemans grave, which at the time,
sported a footballer, sadly not all that
visited the grave held the same level of
respect for his grave, the statue was
vandalised too many times and so was
removed. Eddie is amongst many Salford VIPs
in weaste, its quite an interesting place to
stroll round, lots of history. Liz Salmon

although I never met Fred, having watched
all of his programmes on telly, I feel as if
he was my best mate. The current
re-runs of The Fred Dibnah story , and
others on cable TV just confirm to me what a
truly unique gentleman he was.
- He made me learn to look at architecture
in a new light and enjoy buildings and think
about all the hard work that went into
constructing them.
- God bless you Fred.

- Comments: I think your website is great. I
have been to the Salford Museum today with a group of
5-6 year olds and am typing up my experience today for
school and needed some information on the knocer-upper.
Whilst reading your site I found the bit on Neil's
Friery really funny in as much that I am a big food
lover and I have to agree with you that it is the best
chippy in the world. I lived just off Langworthy Road
for 10 years and even now when I go visiting my friends
we have our tea from there even though you have to queue
out in the street for your tea. I tried to read what the
artist had wrote on his picture to Neil but was unable
to understand all his words.
- From Pete: I have now printed the
words underneath the photograph of Harold Riley's
letter.

contents. I never met Fred but I know he appreciated quality design and
engineering. I look at it from another point of view. I like repairable
engineering and appreciate what people could do with all materials and when
something went wrong, it was repairable, you had plenty of solid metal or
whatever to work with. I hate disposable goods that fall to bits if you don't
look at them the right way and you have to throw them away. I liked Fed and
will have a drink to a great guy. Thanks Alan Laurie of Cumbernauld

The night was for the benefit of "Hurdles" a charity that helps children with special needs and their families. £2,200 raised on the night !!!! Thanks a million lads !
Hanky Park are just fantastic at judging an audience and then giving them what they want. They're very funny, top musicians and great joke tellers and the audience didn't want to let them go home.
Just when you thought the night couldn't get any better in comes Marianne Downes with her beautiful voice and the one and only
Fred Fielder. Fred deserves his own radio station never mind his own show ! BBC take note....letters have been written !
Pete and Tony we can never thank you enough. Your talent is as big as your hearts. On behalf of Hurdles thank you so much.

Just loved it. I’ve played your latest CD for several of our friends, so now
I'll pass em your web site, and if anyone else reads this .. well what do you
think I'd say, I'm one of his brothers. Anthony, Abbotsford BC Canada.

Comments: The first time the Web page was created it was very good. From then on its has
improved beyond all recognition. If anybody is visiting this page for the
first time you must listen to at least one of the CD's that will give an
insight to the varied career of Pete, my incredible brother. I watched him
play his first guitar at Gerard's house and was as amazed then as I am now
with what he has achieved. He continued to practice both on the guitar and
piano every day. When I was thirteen I asked Pete to teach me chords on the
Piano and Guitar. You can hear the result of his patience with me in the CD we
made of the Mayor of Salford's Charity night at the Servite Social Club in
Kersal, Salford. Thanks Pete for helping me along my musical road. I just
wouldn't have had such a wonderful time if it wasn't for you. Keep
strumming,,,,"Our Kid" ! Himself.......

Comments: Although I am his sister, I'm like his surrogate Mum, (and I'm the one who
taught him how to sing!) I recognized his talent at the tender age of three.
We used to sing together as he sat upon my knee. And as I tucked him into bed,
Certain thoughts went through my head. When he grows up, I hope he'll be A
credit to my Mum and me. In other words, let it be said, He'd better do well,
or he'll be dead! - Mary

Comments: Pete, it was a pleasure to have a wandering minstrel like yourself at my
garden party last year. Gerry Cotterill bass player and Kevin Neal , the two
surviving members of the Karl Denver Trio, if anybody could have been Karl for
the day, it was without doubt Pete Martin. God Bless You. Fred Fielder BBC GMR
PS For a low tech man like me your web site is quite bewildering . Your Fred
Dibnah cd was excellent, after having played it on my programme the response
from Joe Public was overwhelming.
